blog background

Given how it encompasses the lower half of North America, it’s only normal for the U.S. to have some of the most diverse climates in the world. From blistering summers to freezing winters, the United States of America offers all of it. Add to that the fact that the average American relocates 12 times during their lifetime, and you get to experience all types of weather. And for those people that take pleasure in spending time in the heat, we prepared a list of the hottest cities in the USA in 2022. This, among other moving industry trends can be useful for both customers and companies to better prepare for the upcoming winter months.

1. Miami, Florida

Miami Beach from above.
Miami is one of the hottest cities in the USA in 2022.

There are quite a few areas in the United States that can reach much higher temperatures than Miami during the summer, but in terms of average temperature year round, Miami is the warmest city in the United States. Florida’s party capital is one of the few cities in the country that doesn’t have huge seasonal changes. If you come to Miami, you can expect an average yearly temperature of around 77 degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, if you don’t like cold winters, Miami is a great option, because you can expect a consistent temperature throughout the year. The weather is the wettest and warmest from June to early September, with temperatures reaching up to 90 degrees. Movers Development research shows that Miami has so far been the most popular city that people relocate to this year.

2. Mesa, Arizona

Mesa is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area, which means that temperatures frequently exceed 100 degrees. Mesa’s record temperature of 122 degrees Fahrenheit was established in July of 1995. In general, July is the hottest month of the year for this city. That being said, in the winter, it tends to become a lot colder. In December, for instance, temperatures drop to an average of 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes it one of the best places for people who like hot climates but don’t mind a bit of a break from it during winter. Furthermore, because Mesa is a desert city, the temperature can drop dramatically at night. This can be very pleasant, especially if you don’t like to keep the AC on during the night.

3. Tucson, Arizona

Tucson is about 60 miles north of the Mexican border. This means that Tucson’s temperature isn’t all that different from northern Mexico, which is the hottest region of the country. In Tucson, during the summer you can expect temperatures to go well beyond 95 degrees. The average temperature in the months between May and September is 90 degrees Fahrenheit. That being said, unlike in Mexico, the winters in Tucson can get really cold, like most other cities in Arizona.

4. Phoenix, Arizona

As the country’s fifth most populous city, Phoenix also boasts one of the country’s warmest climates. Phoenix, like most cities in Arizona, is in an inland area with numerous deserts that are both dry and extremely hot. The temperature in this city can easily reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit between June and October. However, it is not uncommon for the temperature to rise well above that mark on some days.

Landscape of Phoenix, Arizona
Because most of its cities are in the desert, Arizona is one of the hottest states in the United States.

In June 1990, for example, the city reached a temperature record of 122 degrees Fahrenheit. Having said that, while the temperature hasn’t continued to rise significantly in the years since, it did break the 100-degree mark in 2022, reaching 104 degrees Fahrenheit. When it comes to the weather, the city of Phoenix is the sunniest and warmest place in the state of Arizona. During the course of the year, it experiences more than 4,100 hours of sunlight.

5. Houston, Texas

After Florida and Hawaii, Texas has the hottest weather in the United States. Huston in particular has an average annual temperature is around 71 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the main difference between Huston on the other cities on the list is the humidity. For example, Huston has more than 7 times as much annual rainfall as Phoenix.

Huston is not as hot as other USA cities, but it is consistently warm.

That being said, while on average, Huston is just as hot as other cities on this list, it never actually reaches the peak temperatures that you may see in Phoenix or Mesa. However, unlike cities in Arizona, Huston maintains a similar temperature at night as it does during the day. Between June and August, the nighttime lows in Huston stay around  70 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition to that, the relative humidity stays constant at roughly 75%.
